Come along and hear about our charity and see if you would like to get involved either by raising much needed funds or volunteering throughout the year and / or at Christmas time. We are looking for lead volunteers to get more involved. We are a big team and everyone’s support is invaluable.

If you are able to raise any money for our charity then please let us know your ideas and events. We are hoping to hold a Caberet evening in Hastings in June 2022 – tickets to go on sale soon and a Charity Fundraising Evening with live music and dancing at the end of the Summer so look out for more details.

More details will follow on this page about Volunteer recruitment and our Projects ahead.

Volunteering in 2022

We hope to return to our online volunteer recruitment in October so that people can sign up for dates and roles, most suited to them. We would again like to take this opportunity to thank volunteers for their ongoing support for the charity and hope to see some of you back this year. The website, email and social media platforms will keep everyone informed.

As you will be aware this continues to be a difficult time for all charities and Surviving Christmas is no exception. We would normally have been regularly fundraising throughout the year in readiness for the festive period. With the COVID19 pandemic, our funds are much depleted and we are expecting a rise in the number of nominations for food hampers this year, due to the extra hardship people are being faced with.

With this in mind, we would like you, your friend’s and family’s help. Our food Hampers contain about 30 items including all the essentials such as tins of meat, fish, veg, soup and baked beans plus pasta, cooking sauces, sugar, cereals, sweets and chocolate. If everyone saved a couple of these items per month (being mindful of best before dates) then by Christmas we would be well on our way to building our reserves. We will be able to receive donated food items at the Salvation Army Hall Hastings from mid-December – more details on this to follow. In recent years we have distributed over 700 hampers. We realise that times are more difficult for us all but any help would be amazing. Thank you! Please use the Contact Us page on the website if any further information is needed.

Lead Volunteers Welcome

We have a committee of regular lead volunteers who each get involved in whatever capacity their lives at the time allow. We meet about every 2 months or so throughout the year and then more often from September to Christmas. We discuss fundraising, preparation for the hamper project, setting up Santa’s Grotto and organising the 2 day event. The lead volunteers share out tasks so that everyone is supported and the jobs get done. We do need to expand our team as there is a lot to do, especially nearer to Christmas, and most of us have a day job too! It is a lovely team and it is good fun. Over the Christmas period itself, the lead volunteers give up their time as much as they can around their work and family commitments and then we recruit other regular volunteers too for the hamper project, Santa Day and the 2 day event on Christmas and Boxing Day. Please get in touch via the website contact page or the email on the attached poster if you think you would like to get involved in some capacity.
