Christmas 2021 Projects

CHRISTMAS DAY AND BOXING DAY 2021 – SALVATION ARMY HALL, ST ANDREWS SQUARE, HASTINGS.

We are hoping to be able to host our 2-day event on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and therefore will need volunteers to assist for some or all of the day. We will have to keep the numbers of volunteers lower than previous years due to health and safety measures but this will still involve a large gathering of people depending on numbers of guests. It is not known yet whether mask wearing will be mandatory for when moving around so please only volunteer if you feel safe to do so. We have a duty of care for our volunteers but people must take personal responsibility at this time. We are so grateful for all support and could not put on these events without our local amazing volunteers.

The 2-day event is fun for all and includes a hot meal for everyone, drinks, snacks, entertainment, time for chatting and space for reflection – it is important for us that volunteers and guests become one throughout the day. The volunteer roles include making guests feel welcome, dinner service, tea bar, kitchen support (you will need to show a food hygiene certificate for this which can be gained online), security and general support with whatever is needed. We hope to have specialisms there such as a hairdresser, doctor, nurses etc and there is the facility for guests to have a shower.

We are asking volunteers to be flexible in the tasks asked of them so that we all support each other. If you are interested in giving some time to this great cause this Christmas then please sign up using the volunteer recruitment tab provided, choosing the date and time you would like to help and including your contact email address and if you would particularly like to support our chef in the kitchen as this will need the food hygiene certificate. We will then be in touch nearer the time.

CLEARING UP DAY – MONDAY 27TH DECEMBER 2021

We will need a group of about 10 volunteers to support the final clear up after our Christmas projects to get the Salvation Army Hall back to normal. If you are able to offer some time on this date then please sign up using the volunteer recruitment tab.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE ABLE TO VOLUNTEER AND SUPPORT OUR CHARITY – WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU THIS YEAR.

Volunteering in 2021

If Government restrictions allow, we hope to welcome existing and new volunteers to help us run our hamper and 2 day event projects this year. We hope to return to our online volunteer recruitment in October so that people can sign up for dates and roles, most suited to them. We would again like to take this opportunity to thank volunteers for their ongoing support for the charity and hope to see some of you back this year. The website, email and social media platforms will keep everyone informed.

As we get nearer to the time of the events and are aware of any actual restrictions that are imposed, we can then finalise on what is achievable and make the appropriate announcement. Please see below for other ways you can help too!

As you will be aware this continues to be difficult time for all charities and Surviving Christmas is no exception. We would normally have been regularly fundraising throughout the year in readiness for the festive period. With the COVID19 pandemic, our funds are much depleted and we are expecting a rise in the number of nominations for food hampers this year, due to the extra hardship people are being faced with.

With this in mind, we would like you, your friend’s and family’s help. Our food Hampers contain about 30 items including all the essentials such as tins of meat, fish, veg, soup and baked beans plus pasta, cooking sauces, sugar, cereals, sweets and chocolate. If everyone saved one of these items per week (being mindful of best before dates) then by Christmas we would be well on our way to building our reserves. We will be able to receive donated food items at the Salvation Army Hall Hastings during the week of 6th December 2021 ready for packing week commencing 13th December 2021. In recent years we have distributed over 700 hampers. We realise that times are more difficult for us all but any help would be amazing. Thank you! Please use the Contact Us page on the website if any further information is needed.
